Susan Lappas is a highly accomplished, credentialed, national insurance executive with 25 years’ experience in all facets of the insurance industry. She is a leader in employee benefits sales and service who rose from an entry level claims trainer to one of the most sought-after executives in insurance. Susan is known for her ability to drive revenue and earnings growth through new client acquisition, client expansion, and her persistent approach to the work. She has built a reputation for her ability to establish and maintain value-based client relationships through client advocacy and service, the application of disciplined expense management protocols, and her ability to attract, develop, deploy and retain top talent. Susan is an expert in disability, life, dental and voluntary products and an authority on competing in the insurance industry’s national landscape.
Susan is Regional President of Vertus. Previously she served as Vice President, National Accounts for Prudential Financial, and Vice President, National Business Development for ShelterPoint Life Insurance Company. At ShelterPoint she was responsible for all initiatives central to the organization’s ability to compete as a national insurance carrier including the development and execution of strategic and tactical planning. She built and expanded national business partnerships, trained national staff, re-engineered product portfolios and negotiated national distribution contracts.
At MetLife, where she began her career, Susan rose through the ranks quickly from an entry level claims trainer to an influential senior executive. As Vice President, National Accounts Customer Unit, she developed and led a team of 34 professionals responsible for the delivery of employee benefit solutions to highly complex employers with over 10,000 active and retired associates, representing over $500 million in annual revenue. Susan grew annual revenue by approximately 51% and increased annual earnings by $31 million over a three-year period. She was then promoted to Vice President, Dallas Market Leader.
Previously, Susan also held positions at MetLife as Senior Account Executive, National Accounts and Director, National Accounts Client Services. As Senior Account Executive she was responsible for client growth and relationship management in the large case market. She was the lead account representative across all lines of business and led all aspects of the sales cycle including pipeline development, solution and strategy development, contract execution and documentation, and annual plan accounting.
Susan is the recipient of numerous awards for excellence including the FedEx Quest for Quality; award for Outstanding Account Management and the Direct Marketing Association’s Silver Echo Award on behalf of SunTrust Banks.
